As I tucked Buzz in his bed, I told him that I was really tired from work that day. He was sympathetic and even offered advice, "Why don’t you find another job, mom?"
"Where should I work, anak?"
He thought about this for a moment and then replied, "You should work at my school, Canyon Oaks."
"But what would I do there?" I was thinking he would say teach Math, but he said without hesitation, "Yard duty."

"Yard duty" is when volunteer parents wear a neon orange vest, a whistle around their neck and watch kids in the yard during recess and lunch. I think they also make sure the traffic flows during dismissal time and help kids cross safely. A very noble job.

We were enjoying our dimsum at Yank Sing when the couple on our left stood up to leave. As they passed us, the husband smiled at me and said, "Your son is such a darling."
Indeed he is.

At a recent trip to the hair salon, my hairdresser convinced me that my "bangs" are too long. She told me that I should have "side bangs." Since I never had real bangs before and that I always parted my hair sideways, I thought that it would work.
Buzz walked in on me while I was trying to style my new bangs in front of the mirror. He immediately said, "Mom, there is something wrong with your hair." Mortified, I asked him what was wrong. He said that my hair is all over my forehead!
I almost blurted out, "But that is the way you’re supposed to wear bangs!" but I didn’t. I knew that I would lose the battle if I argued with him.
Now, how long does it take for hair to grow out????

The three of us have been craving dim sum for some time now and when Buzz said that he wanted shrimp balls for lunch, we decided to go to Ranch 99, get our cheap dim sum and finish shopping for Christmas lunch.
We ordered:
- Shrimp balls
- Char Siu Bao (steamed pork bun/siopao)
- Sharks fin dumpling
- Har Gow
- Stuffed eggplant
Buzz devoured all 6 pieces of shrimp balls and a char siu bao in about two minutes. Half-way through his second siopao, he suddenly stopped and "chokingly" said, "ARRRGH! I ate the paper!"
Dar and I just looked at each other and tried not to laugh out loud. Buzz was eating so fast he forgot to take out the paper from the siopao’s bottom.
For those who are concerned, Buzz is doing okay and has not complained of stomach pain.

Buzz wrote Santa that he wanted a laptop for Christmas. I’m pretty sure Santa will not be bringing him a laptop this year, so I told Buzz to write again and wish for another gift.
I had to explain to Buzz why a laptop was not really an appropriate gift for an 8 year old. And to emphasize my point, I even told him that I got my first computer when I was already 18!
Buzz immediately replied, "Really mom? Computers have already been invented back then?"
(I know I’m old, but not THAT old!)

After walking Penny and Cal (our two new miniature poodles), Buzz and I stopped at our mailbox. Buzz volunteered to get the mail and carry them home. He noticed that we received our TIME magazine for the week so he asked, "Why do we always get this mom?" I told him Nana (my nanay) paid for our subscription as a gift. Buzz said, "Did she do that so we can have something to read while we’re in the bathroom?" Needless to say, a year’s worth of TIME magazines are indeed in the bathroom. ;)

"Mom, I’ve never heard girls fart. I guess they don’t ever do it, huh?"
(I laughed out loud so hard I almost ruined it for him.)

- "Mom, can you work a little harder in the office so you won’t have to bring your work here at home?" (Does he think I goof around all day??)
- Mother’s Day card Buzz made in school where he tried to describe me by using the letters in his name
- S - Smart
- E - Energetic
- B - Best
- A - Awesome
- S - SOMETIMES HERE
- T - Talented
- I - I love you
- A - Amazing
- N - Nice
I asked him what he meant by "SOMETIMES HERE" and he said that I’m usually in the office and sometimes I go out to have dinner with my friends. I know he wrote some pretty nice things about me, but how can you get over something like that???
